Magnetism and Motion

  • Magnets are bodies that can attract certain materials such as iron, nickel and cobalt which are called ferromagnets.
  • The magnetic force also acts from a distance.
  • Opposite magnetic poles are attracted (pull each other towards them) while Poles with the same polarity are repelled (pushed away).

The magnetic forces between magnets dictate their specific arrangement in space and therefore they will move to take specific positions, depending on their number.

magnetism and motion

A magnetic motor! Electric current flows in the wire when connected to the battery. With the presence of the magnet, the current-flowing conductor receives the magnetic force from the magnet’s field, which forces it to rotate.
